4th St. Power Hour gave me a blackout

When I think about graduating college, I often wonder what I am going to miss most.

My friends? Sure. My professors? Possibly. But most of all, I’ll miss chugging as many cheap drinks as possible within an hour.

The arguably iconic 4th St. Pizza Co. is home to the infamous event, “Power Hour.”

Now it’s no secret that in college the weekend officially begins on Thursday. And at my youthful age of 21, you’d probably think my weekend runs from Thursday to Sunday.

Although, after being “21” for a few years now, my excitement for bar-hopping has died down. My weekends have become Thursday and Friday with the occasional Saturday soirée. Sundays are an exclusive rest/recovery day.

But back to Power Hour.

Thursdays from 11 p.m. to closing at 2 a.m., 4th St. provides well drinks for $2.50.

Before I’m crucified, I know that 11-2 is more than an hour. This is the Thursday exclusive deal, hence my mentioning that weekends in college begin on Thursday.

Friday and Saturday is when Power Hour is actually just an hour. You have from 11 p.m. to 12 p.m. to chug as many $2.50 drinks as possible, and get as wrecked as possible before your next stop in downtown.

However, I will say getting wrecked is pretty easy. The bartenders have a very heavy hand, so if the taste of alcohol is something you despise, well . . . good luck Charlie.

Power Hour is the perfect starting point for a night out – a pregame, if you will.

4th St. Pizza Co. offers more than just a fun start to a night out.

It actually offers some good food as well.

The menu boasts classic pizzeria foods like wings, sandwiches and some pretty darn good pizza.

There is also a modern twist with some fun sandwich offerings, such as its 4th St. PB&J, nachos and quesadilla.

Admittedly, I’ve only tried the pizza, but it didn’t disappoint. The crust was thick, but not in an overwhelming way, and the toppings are generous.

If you’re headed to 4th St. Pizza Co. I’d recommend taking an Uber or walking, if you live around the area.

It’s across the street from City Hall, so parking isn’t ideal. There is a parking garage nearby, but it’s not free until after 6 p.m.

If you’re headed there for Power Hour, I’d strongly advise against driving there.

Despite unsatisfactory parking and my lack of experience of its menu, 4th St. Pizza Co. will always be a reminder of my college years since it’s a hub for students in the area and almost always draws a crowd.
