The ’90s hit anime, “Sailor Moon,” has made its appearance once again, but this time as the face of dazzling makeup.
ColourPop Cosmetics, a Los Angeles-based makeup company, posted a picture Feb. 18 on Twitter, announcing its collaboration with “Sailor Moon.” The post recieved approximately 44,000 likes and 13,000 retweets – the most attention the brand has seen
on Twitter yet.
I became a fan of “Sailor Moon” and was inspired by the Moon Princess, because the show was one of the first female empowering animes.
So yes, this grown woman woke up early on Feb. 20 to purchase the brand’s collaboration.
I could hardly contain my excitement long enough to buy everything in the bundle, including a 12-pan palette, two blushes, two ultra blotted lips, two lip glosses and two gel glitters.
Sadly, I was unable to purchase the full bundle because it sold out in approximately two minutes.
Although I wanted to cry my eyes out, I got a hold of the palette, two glosses, an ultra blotted lip and one gel glitter.
Opening the pink box unleashed my childhood dreams. The packaging was by far the prettiest I’ve seen in a while.
Each box was ballerina pink with gold holographic moons around it and Usagi Tsukino, the main character of the anime, plastered on the front.
The 12-pan palette is small and easy to hold in your hand, which is perfect for traveling. The shades inside consist of three matte shades, four creamy metallic shades, four glitter pastels and one creamy glitter shade.
The colors are soft and could be used for a natural look or a nice soft pop of color.
The shades “TWILIGHT FLASH,” a peach nude, and “MOON CASTLE,” a dusty rose, are two matte shades with a buttery consistency when swatched with a finger.
When I applied these shades with a brush, the pigment was still there, but only slightly.
I had to build it up by packing the shade on repeatedly, which is upsetting because the pigment on the swatch was so bold.
“SILVER CRYSTAL” looked like a chromatic pink at first glance, but when swatched, it becomes a duochrome shade of silver and gold.
When applied with a brush, it was gorgeous and reminded me of a tiara sparkling in the light.
Lastly, my favorite shade in the palette is “LUNA” an iridescent violet shade.
The color is stunning and gives a prismatic touch.
After, I tried out the ultra blotted lip “bun head,” a rouge pink shade.
I have never tried a blotted lip before and I was not too informed when it came to the color payoff, but from my understanding, a blotted lip is more natural, creamy and gives a tint of color.
I was able to comfortably wear it with no cracking on the lips, so I have no complaints.
The lip glosses “moon tiara” and “sailor moon” were the next products I tried.
“moon tiara” is a soft-cream-peach shade with gold glitter and “Sailor Moon” is a coral pink shimmer.
Both of these glosses gave me juicy lips with a hint of color, but the applicator was terrible. This applicator is a short brush with bristles too stiff to move the products around with no streaks.
My favorite product by far is the gel glitter “moonlight legend,” a pink gel mixed with variously-sized chunks of glitter.
This product made putting glitter on my face easy and gave me high shine, but it dries quickly so you have to work fast.
This is by far the cutest collection I have ever owned and gives me such a nostalgic feeling because of the “Sailor Moon” theme.
The products are not bad, but I was expecting more pop when it came to the palette. The applicator for the lip glosses was a huge turnoff because it did not make applying the product easy.
Nonetheless, this collection is not terrible and I will continue to enjoy it. The ColourPop “Sailor Moon” collection is
Bri-approved.
