Former SJSU employee arrested

Disclaimer: This arrest pertains to a completely different individual named Matthew Gonzalez, not the executive editor of the Spartan Daily and journalism senior, Matthew Gonzalez.

A 36-year-old former San José State University student, Matthew Gonzalez, was arrested for lewd and lascivious acts with a minor on Monday, according to the San José Police Department.

Gonzalez was arrested in Campbell and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail. 

He faces charges of sending harmful materials to a minor and sexual assault of a child under the age of 14. The assault occurred on the campus of Herbert Hoover Middle School, according to the SJPD.

The alleged assault took place five years ago during Gonzalez’s tenure at the middle school. Detectives with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit obtained an arrest warrant and executed a search of his residence, according to the SJPD.

Gonzalez is a San José resident and former middle school teacher at Willow Glen Middle School. 

He was a teaching assistant at the SJSU Child Development Center, but has not been affiliated with the university since January 2015, according to the Title IX Office. 

Since investigation in August there have been no allegations related to his employment in these facilities, according to the SJPD.
