With a few weeks into the MLB regular season, the San Francisco Giants have taken the league on notice with their early success.
The Giants currently have a (23-14) record, sitting at fifth in the league standings, according to an ESPN MLB standings webpage.
San Francisco also sits in third place in the competitive National League West while Los Angeles Dodgers team (24-12) sits in first, according to the same source.
Although I am not an avid baseball watcher, the Giants’ hot start has me tuned in and intrigued.
From reading articles and watching highlights on social media, I feel the motivation to follow the Giants’ season.
The energy all over the field that this current Giants team provides for a non-baseball watcher like me has me invested.
The pitching, offense and defense are the main aspects that contribute to the team’s hot start.
San Francisco’s pitching ranks seventh in the league, generating an earned average run of 3.46 while allowing 282 hits and 143 runs, according to an MLB stats page as of Tuesday night.
Pitcher Logan Webb has arguably been the strongest pitching for the Giants.
Webb’s 56 strikeouts places him fifth in the league while notching an era of 2.61 and only allowing 14 earned runs, according the same source.
The All-Star pitcher has showcased remarkable performances earlier in the season.
Notably, he notched 12 strikeouts on a 2-0 loss to the Los Angeles Angels in which he tied a career high set on March 2023 and did not allow any walks, according to an April 18 MLB article.
His performance made him one of four Giants pitchers to record a game that has over 10 strikeouts and no walks, according to the same source.
Besides Webb being a positive note for San Francisco, the team also has a strong hitting team and base running team that has generated attention.
Center fielder Jung Hoo Lee is one player who has garnered some buzz on the team.
The fan favorite from South Korea leads the Giants in batting average with .312 and generates the highest number of hits with 43, according to his ESPN stats page.
I won’t lie, Lee was the main reason I hopped on to the Giants baseball season.
His ability to generate hits and runs has been a major factor, but also his ability to race down the field to make big catches preventing plays from the opposing teams is what makes him a unique player.
Some of Lee’s catches are spectacular, turning into highlight reels.
I have never owned a Giants jersey in my life, but with Lee on the team, I am determined to buy his jersey.
Lee may be loved by San Francisco fans, but Wilmer Flores, the first baseman is also a name to watch for.
After an injury ended the season in 2024, Flores not only led the Giants with 32 RBIs, but also ranks third for most in the MLB, according to the league's RBI stat page.
He has been having a bounce-back year that the 29 other MLB teams should have an eye out.
With a comeback season, he puts the league on notice by showcasing his abilities to contribute to team scoring and having production on offense.
The list of top players for San Francisco don’t stop there as newly signed shortstop Willy Adames, and baseman Matt Chapman and outfielder Mike Yastrzemski all have put up their own spark on offense for this 2025 team.
Even though it is too early to make predictions, so far the Giants are looking like a well jelled team that can make some noise in the playoffs if they keep it up with consistent performances.
The last postseason that featured the Giants was in 2021 where the team compiled the best regular season record (107-55) before shortly falling to the Dodgers in five in the National League Wild Card round, according to an Oct. 15, 2021 MLB article.
San Francisco appearing in the postseason will not only be electric for the fans, but also for the league.
