SJSU Esports members accused of sexual violence and misconduct

Story updated June 27 at 12:45 a.m.

Multiple members of the San Jose State Esports community, both past and present, have been accused of sexual violence and misconduct, according to a tweet from the Esports at San Jose State club’s account.

The tweet stated that the club notified the Title IX office, and SJSU Chief Diversity Officer Kathleen Wong(Lau) said in a comment that the office is now aware of these allegations.

Senior Director of Media Relations Kenneth Mashinchi also confirmed in an email to the Spartan Daily that SJSU just learned about the allegations.

“To the best of our knowledge, no incidents of this nature took place during any operations within our organizations. We encourage anyone with any information to come forward as Spartan Esports has no place for such abuse,” the tweet stated. “These accusations are serious and should be handled as such. Despite the incidents not being directly associated with Spartan Esports, we stand with victims of sexual abuse and empower those speaking up about their experiences.”

The Esports club is not affiliated with SJSU Intercollegiate Athletics, rather it is a recognized student organization according to the SJSU website.

This story is developing and will be updated as more information becomes available to the Spartan Daily.
