San Jose State University Police issued misdemeanor citations to six SJSU student-athletes for trespassing at CEFCU Stadium without consent at 2:07 a.m. on Sept. 13 according to the UPD Daily Crime and Fire Log Bulletin.
The six student-athletes involved were Daria Cocol, a women’s swim team freestyle swimmer, Makenna Mathieson, a women’s swim team backstroke and individual medley swimmer, Makayla Lewis, a women’s volleyball outside hitter, Taumafa Tuinauvai, a women’s volleyball outside hitter and Tre Walker, a football wide receiver. The sixth suspect, who is reportedly an SJSU affiliate, was not identified in the report.
UPD’s Capt. Frank Belcastro said over the phone that there was nothing in the report regarding whether these individuals were under the influence.
According to UPD, police officers were investigating a possible burglary at CEFCU stadium’s construction site when officers heard voices coming from a restricted area. Officers found the student-athletes and issued them citations. The sixth suspect reportedly sustained an injury while trying to jump a fence and was transported by emergency medical services to a local hospital for medical treatment.
SJSU Athletics told the Spartan Daily in an email that it has no comments regarding the incident.
