Superheroes have risen in popularity, but the ongoing debate seems to be whether DC or Marvel is better. Anyone would be crazy not to think DC is the obvious choice.
Many might argue Marvel is better because of its movies, but let’s not forget the superhero franchises are rated on so much more than just films.
For decades and still, DC is more known for its multitude of high-quality video games.
Each game is different with genres ranging from fighting games to action-adventure.
In fighting games such as Injustice and Mortal Kombat vs DC, players can play solo against artificial intelligence or against others nearby or online.
Although both fighting games vary, Mortal Kombat vs. DC combined two different fandoms and has characters such as The Flash fighting Scorpion.
Not to mention the Batman Arkham games are well known among the video game community and are highly ranked. The lowest is Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate at 7.4/10 and the highest is Batman: Arkham City at 9.5/10, both reviewed on IGN, a gaming and entertainment website.
Not only does DC have great video games but it also created iconic animated movies and TV shows such as Young Justice, Justice League and Batman: the Animated Series, to name a few.
One of DC’s most well-known series is Teen Titans, which primarily aired on Cartoon Network back from 2003 to 2005, according to IMDB.
The show followed a group of teenage superheroes as they repeatedly fought villains and saved the world.
Although the show catered more toward younger generations, it had complex storylines that carried throughout the whole season.
These storylines aren’t usually common for kids shows and introduce young viewers to complicated themes and life lessons.
Yes, DC has amazing video games and iconic animated franchises, but Marvel is far more well known for its movies.
The big screen is one of the reasons more people took an interest in superheroes, introducing the public to iconic Marvel characters, including Iron Man and Captain America.
However, when I was growing up, DC heroes were more iconic and familiar to the average person.
When I talk to my parents about superheroes, they mention that when they were growing up, DC heroes such as Batman and Superman were more recognizable. They grew up in the Philippines and even knew names of heroes including Aquaman and Captain Marvel (Shazam).
According to a Sept. 27, 2013 article in FFE Magazine, a magazine for Filipinos working and living in Europe, there is a Filipino superhero named Captain Barbell inspired by DC’s Captain Marvel.
DC has influenced not only other cultures, but also its rival Marvel.
For example, DC’s The Flash and Marvel’s QuickSilver are similar heroes in concept, as well as Green Arrow and Hawkeye.
Both DC heroes were created years before its Marvel counterparts, according to a 2018 article by Vocal Media.
DC heroes are gods trying to be human, while Marvel heroes are humans trying to be gods.
Both franchises are amazing but DC has created a complete experience for fans over the years, leaving no doubt DC is better.
